Pre-Season ... National GIRLS Individual Profiles/Ranks - Cross Country 2015

Below are Performance Profiles for 12 top national high school female runners entering the 2015 cross country season ... I find it interesting to examine profiles of the top national girls and also compare them to the top NY girls (Profiles for the 2015 New York Girls) ... Performance data helps evaluation ... and knowing the performance level of the best national runners is always interesting ..... Opinions will differ on the ranking position of individual runners, but that's a good thing ... It's also a "necessary thing" for serious handicappers ... The order of the runners below is my current pre-season opinion.

 
 

How To Read the Table Information: The number following the name is the school grade for the 2015 XC season.  The XC data listed below the name are, in order, the race name, race date, place, actual race time, and speed rating (higher is faster).  Selected track data are also shown .

 

 

 #1 -  Paige Hofstad   12   New Braunfels HS  Texas
Paige Hofstad finished 2nd at NXN Nationals and 4th at Footlocker Nationals ... she is the top returning runner from both National meets ... And that makes Paige Hofstad the #1 harrier in the nation entering the 2015 XC season.

Unfortunately, Paige Hofstad missed most of track due to injury ... According to the San Antonio newspaper (April 9, 2015), Paige was going to miss the remainder of the 2015 outdoor track season due to an undisclosed injury (I heard it may be a hip injury) ... I do not know her exact status at the time of this posting, but I believe she is running again.

 #2 - Hannah DeBalsi   12   Staples HS   Connecticut
Hannah DeBalsi demonstrated outstanding XC ability during the 2013 season ... she finished 2nd at Footlocker Nationals with an excellent performance (behind Tessa Barrett) ... Last year she was injured during XC season (heard she considered not running XC), but she gritted her way to finishing 5th at Footlocker Nationals.

Hannah battled injuries during track and did not perform quite as well as the previous year ... Appears she began rounding into form at the end of the outdoor season and finished an excellent 3rd in the 2-Mile at the Brooks PR Invite (10:03.24) ... She has the ability to follow fast runners and be close at the end no matter the time ... A healthy & fit Hannah DeBalsi will be hard for any runner to beat.

Destiny Collins was hobbled by an injury during the Mt SAC Sweeps race, and it affected the remainder of her XC season ... Earlier in the XC season, Destiny beat Fiona O'Keeffe at the Clovis Invite with an excellent performance ... If healthy, she would have been one of the favorites entering NXN Nationals.

Destiny ran exceptionally well during track and set PRs at all distances including an outstanding 3200m win at CA States (9:53.79) ... Finished a very good 2nd to Anna Rohrer at the Brooks PR Invite in the 2-Mile ... Destiny will likely to competing at NXN Nationals this coming fall since Great Oak will be a top national team.

In track,Fiona set PRs at 3200m (10:00.85) and 1600m (4:45.68) ... she was 4th at the Brooks PR Invite 2-Mile (behind Destiny Collins and Hannah DeBalsi).

In XC, Katie Rainsberger won both the NXN Southwest Regional and the Colorado State 4A championship ... She finished 6th at NXN Nationals ... In February, she finished 3rd at the USA Junior Championship .......... Katie has excellent track speed ... set PRs in the Mile (4:40.92) and 800m (2:08.87) ... She can definitely contend for a national XC championship at either NXN or Footlocker.

Libby Davidson finished 6th at Footlocker Nationals (3rd-best underclassmen behind only Paige Hofstad and Hannah DeBalsi) ... She won the Race of Champions at the Great American Festival beating Ryen Frazier.

Libby performed very nicely at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in track ... She was 3rd in the 5000m (16:50.89), 2nd in the 2-Mile (10:24.67), and 8th in the Mile (4:54.79) on three consecutive days of competition.

As an 8th-grader last year, Amaris Tyynismaa was undefeated in XC and won the Alabama State Meet (4A) with a spectacular performance (a 158 speed rating which is the highest I have seen for any 8th-grader; previous best was 155 by Nicole Blood of Saratoga) ... She could not compete in the Footlocker South Championship race (due to grade), but won the Open race easily (only 8 seconds slower than Paige Hofstad and 1 second slower than Libby Davidson).

In track, Amaris set the Alabama Indoor State Record at 3200m (10:32.94).

The previous year, Ella Donaghu beat Alexa Efraimson at the Pier Park XC Invite ........... Ella was again very fast during the track season ... she won the Brooks PR Invite Mile (4:43.07) and set the Oregon State 1500m record at the Portland Track Festival (4:20.83).
