How To Read the Table Information: The number following the name is the school grade for the 2015 XC season. The "Class" in parentheses pertains to the 2015 XC season.  The XC data listed below the name are, in order, the race name, race date, place, actual race time, and speed rating (higher is faster).  Selected track data are also listed for most runners ... Girls XC performance database and Girls track & field performance database are available on separate web-pages.

 

Jessica Lawson    11    Corning    (Section 4 - Class A)
Jessica Lawson was the NY State Sophomore-of-the-Year in 2014 and has the highest overall speed rating of all returning NY girls ... Jessica finished 2nd to graduated-Bella Burda at both NY Federations and States (Class A)... She was the top NY girl at NXN Nationals (finished 26th) ... Her overall speed ratings rank Jessica in the top 20 returning harriers in the nation.

Jessica's track seasons were compromised by a foot injury (Freiberg's infraction) ... She did not compete in running events during outdoor season ... Still finished 3rd at Indoor States in the 3000 meters despite missing some training time.

Abbey Wheeler had another excellent XC season in 2014 and was named NY State-Junior-of the-Year ... she finished 3rd at NY Federations and 36th at NXN Nationals (2nd best NY girl at NXN Nationals).

Abbey set PRs at all distances during track ...Finished 2nd at Outdoor States in the 3000 meters (9:45.66) and 2nd at Indoor States in the 1500 meters (4:33.65) ... Look for another outstanding season from this senior.

In XC, Anna Flynn finished 4th at both NY States (Class A) and Federations ... Popped a season-best performance at Footlocker Northeast and qualified for Footlocker Nationals.

Anna set PRs at all distances during track including an excellent 3rd-place finish at Outdoor States in the 1500 meters (4:27.39) and a fast 3000 meters at State Qualifiers (9:44.59) ... Demonstrated improved speed at 800 meters (2:11.04) ... Ursuline drops to Class B this season, but Anna Flynn will challenge for the top spot in all of NY State.

Phoebe White    8    Fayetteville-Manlius    (Section 3 - Class A)
Phoebe White did not run cross country last fall as a 7th-garder, but she did run varsity track for Fayetteville-Manlius ... In track, she ran some good performances including the 1500m (4:53.93), 800m (2:23.05 relay split) and the Steeplechase (7:08.75 - which was only 3 seconds off the State 7th-grade record entering the 2015 season, but later lowered to 7:00.12 by Mary Hennelly, the NY 7th-8th grade XC runner-of-the-year, profiled below).

Phoebe is not new to distance races ... As a 10-year old in 2013, she ran a 22 minute 5K at the Syracuse Festival of Races (she and her Mom (19:01) teamed-up to win the Mother-Daughter contest ... Last year she ran 21+ minutes in the Syracuse Festival of Races).

Katelyn Tuohy did not run XC as a 7th-grader (she played soccer) ... She began running during indoor track season and set NY State 7th-Grade Records at 1000 meters (2:56.36) and 1500 meters (4:36.57) ... Finished 4th at Indoor States in 1500 meters ... Won the New Balance Indoor National Mile for Junior High runners (4:59.93).

Katelyn set the Outdoor NY State 7th-Grade Record for the Mile (4:58.40) and popped a huge 3000 meter performance (9:48.44).

I have been informed that Katelyn will be running XC this fall, so I thought a profile was appropriate ... North Rockland will have a great one-two punch with Alex Harris and Katelyn Tuohy.

As an 8th-grader this past track season, Kelsey Chmiel burst onto high school running scene in NY in big way! ... She popped three 3000 meter performances with sub-10:00 race times (9:52.87 being the best) ... She finished an excellent 3rd at States in the 3000 meters (losing only to graduate Bella Burda and Abbey Wheeler) ... Set a very good 1500 meter PR of 4:35.71.

I'm guessing Kelsey Chmiel will be running XC ... With the Saratoga girls having excellent depth this coming XC season, Kelsey Chmiel could elevate Saratoga to a potential contender for State and National titles.

Jessica Lawson is the top-rated returning runner in NY and she was the top
NY finisher at NXN Nationals ... Despite her compromised track seasons due
to injury, Jessica Lawson enters the 2015 XC season as the #1 NY runner ...
Abbey Wheeler and Carly Benson have excellent overall speed ratings plus
good track performances and should challenge for the top spot ... Alex Harris
is improving nicely, and it will be interesting to see her XC progress along
with 8th-grade team-mate Katelyn Tuohy (in her first XC season) ... Class A
is loaded with individual talent and teams!!

Fayetteville-Manlius has three girls in the top 6 in the list below. That
core of runners indicates that FM will be the top-rated team in NY and
possibly in the  nation ... Other NY teams will be highly ranked on the

Footlocker finalist and an outstanding track performer, and that makes her
the top-rated Class B runner entering the XC season ... Katherine Lee is
the defending Class B champion and an excellent runner; she could
definitely challenge for the top spot ... Not only is Emily MacKay very
talented, she was 2nd in Class B last year and qualified for NXN Nationals;
she is another serious contender for the top spot.

runner entering 2015 ... I suspect she could be seriously challenged by Julia
Flower and Kaitlin Ryan ... Both girls are excellent track performers, and
that talent could become evident during XC ... Julia Flower was injured last
year.

East Aurora and Bronxville are expected to have another tight battle for the
team title.
