 Girls (Scholastic) 800 Meter Run ... Semi-Final
Completing the first lap of the first semi-final race ... eventual winner Melissa Usack (#798, Lansing HS) is taking the lead from Laura McCloskey (John Jay EF HS) ... they are followed by Rachel Ippolito (Williamsville) and Tara Mulcahy ... Melissa is the State Class C/D 800 meter champion.

Approaching the 3 mile mark ... Sean McDermott leads eventual winner Tom Williams (Arlington HS) and Bryan Morseman (Addison) ... Tom Williams took the lead passing the 5K mark (17:40) ... Just over 5.5 miles into the race ... Scott Mindel (Shenendehowa HS) has taken the lead from eventual winner Tom Williams (Arlington HS) with Bryan Morseman (Addison) in 3rd position ... early in the race, Scott Mindel trailed by nearly 200 meters before catching up ... with about two laps remaining, Tom Williams re-took the lead (apparently, the heat caused Mindel to slow up and then stop).

About a mile into the race ... the foursome above had broken away from the other runners ... leading is winner Liz Cufari (Pittsford-Sutherland HS) ... following are Kelly Murray (Whitesboro HS), Kayla Curtis (Canastota) and Katelyn Reepmeyer (Shaker HS) ... Liz Cufari ran the opening 5K in 20:19.8 and finished strongly under the hot conditions in an excellent efforrt.
