Quick Look Back - Luke Puskedra (Utah) - Speed Ratings 2007

A Speed Rating of 200 is a major benchmark
for high school Boys in my system of speed rating... and a
viewer recently asked me "What high school Boy has the most speed
ratings of 200 or higher?". For a single season, I was fairly certain the answer was Luke Puskedra of Judge Memorial Catholic HS (Utah) during the 2007 XC season when Luke was a senior. It must be remembered that my universe of speed ratings is limited to the races I have actually speed-rated ... and some older elite high school runners (such as Dathan Ritzenhein) have limited full-race data available which limits my ability to accurately rate many older races ... and I have made an effort with respect to Ritzenhein because his 2000 Foot Locker win has my highest individual speed rating for any high school boy (213.7) ... For those interested, available Ritzenhein speed ratings are listed at the bottom of this page. With respect to Luke Puskedra, I thought it might be interesting to some viewers to go back and look at his high school performances in cross country 2007 and track in 2008 (especially his XC races that I rated) ... So I dug through my archived databases and results and compiled some performances (listed below). To be honest, I remember being skeptical of his initial 2007 XC speed rating (204) at the the Judge Memorial Invite (thought I had over-rated the race) ... But his performances at subsequent races confirmed his ability ... Partial results from some of his XC races are listed further below that show who he competed against. Some Track performances listed below also indicate Luke's running ability as a high school senior. Luke Puskedra ran for Oregon in
college ... and as a true freshman in 2008, he finished
5th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships ...
