Note ... The scores are simply my pre-season "guess" of relative team abilities in a combined race ... I included 29 teams to show some depth.

In General ... The Section 2 Girls have four teams at the top of the combined NY pre-season projections above ... It might be a competitive battle at NXR-New York 2025 ... and in Section 2 itself.

Shenedehowa finished 2nd to Bethlehem at both the NXR-New York and the Section 2 Championship meets last year, and then finished 17th at NXN Nationals ... Shen graduated only one runner from all of these meets (#4 scorer at best), and that's why the speed-ratings place Shenendehowa at the top.

Bethlehem won NXR-New York and finished an excellent 5th at NXN Nationals ... Bethlehem graduated 2 scorers from their championship races, but they return a solid core of runners that may contend for the championship titles.

Saratoga Springs has been a perennial contender for sectional, State, Federation and NXN National titles for many years ... They have new coaches this coming XC season ...But Saratoga still has talent to contend in the post-season ... Saratoga finished a close 3rd to Shenendehowa at Section 2 Championships last year, and 3rd again (to Bethlehem and Shen) at NXR-New York ... Saratoga returns 6 of their top 7 runners from these races, losing only their #5 scorer.

Not far behind are a group of teams with possible potential ... Guilderland, Northport and Fayetteville-Manlius ... Improvement at various positions and/or inclusion of new impactful runners (which does occurred) could elevate them to a challenging position.

Shenendehowa and Bethlehem are both in my National Pre-season Top 30 (to be posted later).

Shenendehowa is the top-ranked team in Class A and the top-ranked team in NY State overall entering the 2025 XC season.

Shenedehowa finished 2nd to Bethlehem at last year's Section 2 Championships, so Shenedehowa did not qualify for the State Meet ... Shen finished 2nd to Bethlehem at the NXR-New York and qualified for NXN Nationals where they finished 17th ... Shen graduated only one runner from all of these meets (#4 scorer at best), so they return a strong team.

Bethlehem is the defending State Class A Champion ... they won NXR-New York and finished an excellent 5th at NXN Nationals ... Bethlehem graduated 2 scorers from their championship races, but they return a solid core of runners that may contend for the championship titles.

Fayetteville-Manlius returns 4 scorers from their sectional championship race, but lose their top scorer ... I'm guessing FM is getting a new talented runner who competed very well on their Junior High XC team last year (and then on Varsity Track).

Burnt Hills finished 4th at last year's State Class B race and return all 7 runners from that race.

South Jefferson finished 3rd in last year's State Class C race, but move up to Class B this year ... they return their top 6 runners from that race.

Cornwall finished a close 2nd at last year's State Class B race and return 6 of 7 runners (but lose their #1 scorer).

Sayville finished 5th at last year's State Class B race and return 6 of 7 runners including the top 4 scorers.

Pittsford Mendon finished 3rd at the Section 5 Championships last year and did not compete in the State Meet ... they return 6 of 7 runners (lose the #2 scorer).

Tappan Zee is the defending State Class B Champion ...  returns 5 of 7 runners (losing their #2 and #4 scorers from the State Meet).

Class B could be interesting ... New and improved runners could be the factor to determine the finish positions at the State Class B race.

Voorheesville finished 4th at last year's State Class C race and returns 5 of 7 runners including their top 3 scorers which gives them a good team core.

Bronxvillle finished a very close 2nd to East Aurora at last year's State Class C race (62 to 64 pts) ... Bronxville returns 4 of their scorers including their #1.

East Aurora won the State Class C race the last three years ... East Aurora graduated their #1, #3 and #4 scorers from last year's race ... However, East Aurora is good at reloading talent, so they should be considered one of the favorites entering the season.

Adirondack finished 2nd in the Class C race two years ago, but were beaten at Section 3 Championship last year by rival South Jefferson (who is one of the favorites in Class B this year) ...   Adirondack returns their top 6 from sectionals.

As usual, lots of uncertainty in the projections for some teams.

Talented new runners can have a major impact on team scoring, especially at the small school level.

It is possible that many teams could be in hunt for a podium position at The State Meet ... (it's a guess at this point).

Beaver River finished 3rd at last year's State Class D race ... they return 6 of 7 runners from the Stat Meet (but lose the #1 scorer).

Mount Academy is the defending State Class D Champion ... they return 5 of 7 runners (but lose the #3 and #4 scorers).

Maple Grove did not compete in last year's State Meet ... they return 6 of 7 runners from the Section 6 Championship race, including the top 4 scorers.

Lake Placid finished 2nd at last year's State Class D race (only 8 pts behind Mount Academy) ... they return 5 of 7 runners (but lose the #4 and #5 scorers).

Fabius-Pompey finished a close 2nd to Beaver River at last year's Section 3 Championships ...they return 5 of their top 7 runners (lose the #4 scorer).

Pulaski finished a good 3rd to Beaver River at last year's Section 3 Championships ...they return 6 of their top 7 runners (but lose the #2 scorer).

Class D looks fairly wide open.
