Note ... The scores are simply my pre-season "guess" of relative team abilities in a combined race ... I included 31 teams to show some depth.

In General ... Similar to other pre-seasons, there is always uncertainty in the team scores posted above ... Pre-season projections are often made with limited knowledge (or no knowledge) of incoming impact runners such as transfers (from other sports or other schools) or significantly improved runners from the previous year ... It requires guessing ... But it is good enough for pre-season!

Chaminade, North Rockland and Fairport enter the 2025 season as the favorites based on speed ratings ... little separates these teams based on this criteria ... Chaminade gets a slight advantage overall based on potential scoring at the lower scoring positions ... North Rockland has the advantage at the top-end with top runners Claudel Chery and Ryan Tuohy ... In computer race simulations, one typical scoring running having a "bad" race can change team scoring significantly and other teams in the rankings above become contenders.

Chaminade was 2nd last year at the CHSAA Championships and return all 7 runners from that race and the NXR-New York race (where they finished 15th) ... North Rockland was 4th at the NXR-New York race but graduated their #3 and #5 scorers ... Fairport was 24th at the NXR-New York and return all 7 runners from that race and the NY State Class A race.

One or two new impact runners could make a big difference for a bunch of teams ... Should be interesting to watch the development throughout the XC season.

Important Note - Team Scoring in any race depends on the quality and number of other teams in the race ... The Combined NY team scoring posted above is limited to the 31 NY teams listed ... When the top NY Boys teams are included in my National team projection (to be posted later) they unfortunately do not make into the top 30 pre-season National teams (and their relative scores get somewhat altered) ... BUT this is pre-season and team strengths can change during the season, and I am optimistically hopeful for the NY teams.

Like all classes, the Class A preseason rankings are based primarily on available speed ratings from 2024.

Based on returning speed ratings, Fairport and North Rockland have a slight advantage over Saratoga Springs and Ward Melville ... None of the Class A teams seem to have significant depth based on returning speed ratings, but depth can be fluid and change over the XC season ... That's what I will be watching - Which teams will be showing improved runners or talented new runners ... Really hoping that happens in NY State this XC season.

North Rockland finished 2nd at last year's State Class A race and return 4 of their 5 scorers including their top 2 duo (Claudel Chery and Ryan Tuohy) which helps their team scoring.

Fairport finished 7th at last year's State Class A race, but returns all 7 runners.

Any team with one or more "new" good runners or noticeably improved runners can improve their ranking position by quite a bit (and perhaps, a lot) ... Could be an interesting season in Class A ... Somebody could surprise.

Manhasset is the defending Class B Champion (they won by 49 points last year) ... Manhasset returns only 2 scorers from the State Meet, but they were the top 2 scorers (speed ratings of 179 and 172) ... and Manhasset has some retuning depth, so they are the favorite.

Burnt Hills did not compete at the State Meet last year ... Burnt Hills did beat Manhasset at the 2023 State Class B race ... Burnt Hills returns their top 7 runners from last year's Section 2 Championship race, and that makes them a serious contender.

McQuaid Jesuit, Vestal and Cornwall are within striking distance with some new or improved talent.

I am expecting (hoping) a few teams in Class B will show some nice improvement.

Bronxville was 2nd at last year's Class C race ... They returns 5 of 7 runners from the State (but lose their #2 and #4 scorers) ... Bronxville is a contender, but they need to beat Irvington at the Section 1 State Qualifier.

Irvington was 2nd to Bronxville at last year's Section 1 Championship (State Qual) ... Irvington returns 5 of their top 7 from the sectional meet (losing only one scorer (#3)), so they could be a contender.

As normal, lots of uncertainty with various teams and placement ... Placement above is simply a best-guess.

Class D seems to have enough uncertainties that makes prediction uncertain ... Factors such as lack of team depth, status of returning runners, and unknown abilities of new runners could make Class D interesting and changeable as the season progresses.

Maple Grove is the favorite based on returning speed ratings ... Maple Grove finished 3rd at last year's State Class D race ... they return 6 of 7 runners from that race including the top 6 finishers.

Port Jefferson is the defending Class D champion ... they return 5 of 7 runners from that race, but lose their top 2 runners.
