Remember ... this list is just an informational starting point ... I posted scores by individual class because some people are interested.

NOTE ... the NYSPHSAA has announced that the NYSPHSAA Championships will be not be contested in the fall of 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic ... However, I am posting these pre-season projections as if this would be a "normal" season, simply as a point of interest.

Note ... The scores are simply my pre-season "guess" of relative team abilities in a combined race ... I included 47 teams to show some depth.

In General ... Saratoga and Fayetteville-Manlius are the top teams overall in New York State entering the 2020 XC season ... Saratoga is the defending NXN National Champion and they return their entire team from NXN ... and not surprisingly, Saratoga will be the #1-ranked team in the Pre-season National Rankings.

Fayetteville-Manlius, Saratoga and other teams have additional comments below in the Class A section ... Profiles for the Top Individual NY Girls are also available.

Additional comments and information are given below by class ... Class consideration is important in the pre-season because it impacts far more runners than projections intended for Federation Championships or the NXN-NY regional qualifier.

Like last year, Fayetteville-Manlius and Saratoga are the top-ranked teams in Class A and in NY State overall ... Last year, FM beat Saratoga by 6 points at States and by 2 points at the NXN New York Regional ... Saratoga then hammered everybody (including FM) at NXN Nationals where Saratoga beat runner-up Summit Oregon by 82 points and 7th-place FM by 182 points ... What a difference a week makes.

Saratoga returns all 7 runners from States and NXN which makes them the solid favorite ... Fayetteville-Manlius lost two top runners to graduation (Claire Walters and Phoebe Wright).

Shenendehowa typically has talent (and they do again) ... Cornwall might be surprisingly strong, and they are led by Karrie Baloga (the top-rated Class A runner).

The top 5 picks above were the top 5 finishers at Class B States last year ... East Aurora won followed by Pearl River, Burnt Hills, North Shore and Goshen.

Pearl River returns their entire team from States including the top returning Class B girl from States (Mady Moroney).

Burnt Hills return their top 6 runners from States ... East Aurora graduated 2 of their top 5 from States ... Goshen returns their top 5 from States ... North Shore's top runner graduated.

Class B could be quite interesting ... The top three are not separated by much.

Greenwich finished 2nd to Camden at State last year (lost by only 2 points), and Camden moves up to Class B this season ... Greenwich was the Class C champion in 2018 ... Greenwich gets a slight advantage in the pre-season projection because they return 4 good runners (they will need a 5th, but they seem to reload quite nicely) ... They did lose their top runner and two others, so they may be suspect.

Newfane finished 3rd at States last year, with Dobbs Ferry 4th and James O'Neill 5th ... South Lewis is strongest team through 3 runners, but they need a little improvement at the #4 and #5-positions

Lots of uncertainty in these projections ... and I'm not sure if Norwood-Norfolk will be Class C or Class D.

Delhi is the defending Class D Champion and they return their entire team from States ... But the State Meet was close as Delhi beat Maple Grove and and Tully by only 5 and 7 points respectively.

Maple Grove also returns their entire team from States ... Tully returns the top Class D runner (Brooke Rauber) and the rest of their team from States ... Looks like another close match-up between Delhi, Maple Grove and Tully.

As normal, lots of uncertainty in projecting the other Class D teams (it's a guess at this point) ..... Talented new runners can have a major impact on team scoring, especially at the small school level.

Notre Dame Academy (Staten Island) won the CHSAA Championship last year (defeating Sacred Heart and St. Anthony's by 9 and 25 points respectively) ... The scores above are nothing more than just a "best guess" entering the season ... Notre Dame has the best-rated top three runners returning, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt (they will need some new talent to defend their CHSAA title).

As normal, lots of uncertainty for most of the teams in the CHSAA-PSAL-AIS grouping entering a new season ... Just one or two new runners, transfers, etc. for any team will make a major difference.
