Remember - These are my own Watch-Lists ... I make them available so viewers can see who the top individuals are and what they have done ...  and I do not take the exact order of the lists too seriously (and neither should anybody else) ... Once the season begins, these lists are not used in any way to rank individual runners.

How To Read the Table Information: The number following the name is the school grade for the 2012 XC season. The "Class" in parentheses pertains to the 2012 XC season. The XC data listed below the name are, in order, the race name, race date, place, actual race time, and speed rating (higher is faster).  Selected track data are also listed for most runners.  My Boys XC performance database and Boys track & field performance database are available on separate web-pages.

 

 

Nick Ryan    12    Fayetteville-Manlius   (Section 3 - Class A)
Nick Ryan enters the 2012 XC season as the top-rated NY runner and one of the top runners in the nation ... Nick finished an outstanding 5th at NXN Nationals after leading the first half of the race and then holding on in a remarkably game performance (and the four guys who beat him at NXN all graduated) ... When combined with the returning runners from Footlocker (which include top-rated Edward Cheserek), Nick Ryan will be in the top five in my pre-season national list of individual runners.

Nick had an outstanding outdoor track season ... won the NY State Meet 1600m in Section 3 record time (4:05.24) and also won the NY State Meet 3200m (9:03.81).

Dan Galford    12    Monsignor Farrell   (CHSAA)
Dan Galford had some excellent XC performances in 2011 including Federations (2nd), NXN-NY regional (3rd, qualified for NXN Nationals), and the CHSAA Championship (1st) ........ In indoor track, Dan was 5th at States ... after that, he ran a good 1600m relay split at the Arcadia CA Invite (4:15) ... According to a newspaper article, he was hampered by tendonitis in both knees during outdoor track.

Ryan Manahan    12    Marcellus    (Section 3 - Class B)
Ryan Manahan won divisions at six invitational XC races ... he was 2nd at States (Class B) and had a season-best performance at the NXN-NY regional which qualified him for NXN Nationals.

Ryan's indoor track season was cut short by an injury, but he rebounded with some huge PR performances during outdoor track ... took 3rd at the NY State Meet in the 3200m with a PR (9:08.65) and then split an outstanding 1:50.89 in the 4x800 relay the next day ... Don't be surprised if Ryan appears on national lists during the season.

TJ Hornberger was very good consistently throughout the XC season ... He was 12th at Federations (only two underclassmen finished in front of him) ... TJ won divisions at four invitational XC races and was 3rd at States (Class B) ... he was awarded NY State Sophomore Runner-of-the-Year in XC ....... TJ was also consistently good throughout track ... at the outdoor NY State Meet, he was 11th at 3200m (from the unseeded heat) and 15th at 1600m.

Sebastion Hanson (also known as Sibby) is another runner who was very consistent and very good in XC ... good season-ending performances at States (10th), Feds (17th) and NXN regional (12th) ......... In track, Sebastion was 7th at the outdoor State Meet in the 1600m and 6th at the indoor State Meet in the 3200m ... set an excellent 3200m PR (9:06.30) and split 4:13.24 for 1600m at outdoor Nationals in the DMR.

Finished an excellent 6th at outdoor Nationals in the Mile with a PR (4:11.90) ... was 6th at indoor Nationals in the 2-Mlie with another PR (9:07.08) ... His track performances suggest an improved XC season that could exceptionally good.

Kris was 6th at outdoor States in the 1600m (4:13.40 PR) and then ran well at Nationals in both the Mile and 2-Mile.

Marco Pompilj won the NY State Freshmen Runner-of-the-Year award in XC ... finished a very good 24th at Federations ......... Ran some really good track performances ... Marco won the outdoor National Freshmen 2-Mile race (9:36.81) and came back in two days to take 4th in the National Freshmen Mile race ...  Set a 1600m PR (4:17.61) making him the 3rd-fastest frosh ever in NY State at that distance.

James Burke had a somewhat abbreviated freshmen XC season ....... However, I think his ability was demonstrated with many outstanding track performances ... James won the outdoor National Frosh Mile ... he was 9th at States in the 1600m (4:16.73) and 12th in the 3200m (9:25.19) ...  1600m at State Quals (4:16.68) made him the 2nd-fastest frosh ever in NY State at that distance ... just missed (by 0.48) the NY State Frosh record in the 2000m Steeple (6:23.54).

 CLASS A

Nick Ryan is the solid favorite entering XC 2012 ... A number of guys look
competitive for the next positions ... I expect to see a bunch of runners

 CLASS D

Class D looks very competitive again at the top-end with several guys closely 
rated ... Jeff Antolos edged Alex Campanella in a close race at States last
year (Corey Wefing was 4th at States) ... Greenwich drops from Class C to
Class D, and Jeremy Spiezio ran XC very decently as s freshman and then
posted some good track performances ... Update - Notre Dame-Batavia has 
classified up to Class C
