NXN Data - Schools, Finishes & Number of Appearances at NXN
Portland Meadows
by Bill Meylan (December 11, 2012)
This article lists some quick
compilations of the schools that have competed at NXN Portland Meadows
during the nine years that Nike has hosted the event starting in 2004 ...
The Boys Table and Girls Table
below are alphabetic listings of finishing places for each school.
It is not uncommon for serious
horseplayers to keep stats on "success factors" surrounding important horse
races such as the Kentucky Derby and Breeder's Cup races ... For example,
how successful have specific trainers, jockeys, stables, etc. been at a
specific race in past years ... at times, this may be an important
consideration when betting real money
(it's not always important, but it might be, so it's nice to know the
stats).
I formatted the lists below
fairly quick, so hopefully there are not too many errors ... some of the
"club names" can be difficult to match to the exact school.
Hopefully, some viewers will
find the lists interesting ... That's one reason I posted them ... I may
also be referencing them in a future article about NXN and what it's become
from the viewpoint of a fan and a handicapper.
Quick Overview ...
Boys - 103 Schools have competed
at NXN .. (updated Jan 27, 2013
... Ferris WA and Joel Ferris WA were mistakenly not combined in original
post)
... 64 schools - only one appearance
... 20 schools - two appearances
... 6 schools - three appearances (Mead, Loyola CA, Shenendehowa, Neuqua
Valley, Danbury, Davis UT)
... 5 schools - four appearances (American Fork, Wayzata, Arcadia, Royal,
Joel Ferris)
... 3 schools - five appearances (CBA, Dana Hills, Albuquerque)
... 2 schools - six appearances (North Central, Southlake Carroll)
... 1 school - seven appearances (Fayetteville-Manlius)
... 1 school - eight appearances (The Woodlands)
... 1 school - nine appearances (York)
One measure of success at NXN is finishing on
the podium (a top three finisher) ... So in the nine years of NXN, there
have been 27 total podium positions for the boys ... For the boys, only 3
podium positions have been won by teams with only one appearance in the nine
years ... Boerne TX (1st in 2009), Coatesville PA (1st in 2006) and
Naperville North (3rd in 2008).
Boys Teams on the Podium
... York - 3 podiums
... The Woodlands - 1 podium
... Fayetteville-Manlius - 3 podiums
... North Central - 2 podiums
... Joel Ferris - 2 podiums
... Southlake Carroll - 1 podium
... Christian Brothers - 1 podium
... Albuquerque - 1 podium
... American Fork - 1 podium
... Arcadia - 2 podiums
... Royal - 1 podium
The 11 schools listed above (all having four
appearances or more) have won 18 of 27 podium positions ... or 10.7% of the
boys schools that have competed at NXN have won 66.7% of the podium
positions (original numbers updated to include Joel
Ferris) ... that does have implications for most handicappers,
but now look at the girls.
Girls - 107 Schools have
competed at NXN
... 68 schools - only one appearance
... 23 schools - two appearances
... 7 schools - three appearances (Dowling Catholic, Sioux Falls, The
Woodlands, Voorhees, Corona del Mar, Westfield IN, Carmel)
... 2 schools - four appearances (Humble Kingwood, Yankton)
... 0 schools - five appearances
... 2 schools - six appearances (Fort Collins, Jesuit OR)
... 3 school - seven appearances (Fayetteville-Manlius, Saugus, Tatnall)
... 2 school - eight appearances (Saratoga, Southlake Carroll)
... 0 school - nine appearances
One girl's school with only one appearance at NXN
has won a podium position (Smoky Hill was 2nd in 2004, and they had 2
Footlocker finalists plus a previous year's Footlocker finalist on that
team) ... Only one girl's school with two appearances at NXN has won a
podium position (Hilton NY was 1st in 2005 and 2nd in 2006).
Girls on the Podium
... Fayetteville-Manlius - 7 podiums
... Saratoga - 6 podiums
... Saugus - 3 podiums
... Southlake Carroll - 3 podiums
... Tatnall - 2 podiums
The 5 schools listed above (all having seven appearances or more) have won
21 of 27 podium positions ... or 4.7% of the girls schools that have
competed at NXN have won 77.8% of the podium positions ... With respect to
the New York girls (FM, Saratoga, Hilton), 3 NY schools have won 15 of 27
podium positions and 100% of the wins over the 9-year span ... To be
discussed in the next article, and my conclusions will surprise most
viewers.
