Look Back - High School XC Speed Ratings of Some North Carolina State University Women Runners

The North Carolina State women's Cross Country team won the
NCAA D1 Team Championship for both 2022 and 2021 ... And some scoring team
members were former "highly rated" high school runners from NY State that I
followed closely throughout their high school careers (Katelyn Tuohy,
Kelsey Chmiel and Brooke Rauber).
Recently, I read that Amaris Tyynismaa (9th at the 2022 NCAA race and 3rd at the 2020 race) would be transferring from Alabama to NC State ... Amaris Tyynismaa caught my speed rating attention in 2014 when she achieved a 158.00 speed rating as an 8th-grader at the Alabama High School State Championships ... That speed rating (158) is the highest speed rating for any junior high school girl I have ever evaluated ... She followed that race with 150 speed rating at Foot Locker South in a 13-14 Girls Race where she was not eligible to qualify for Foot Locker Nationals (her time (16:57) would have placed her 5th in the Foot Locker South Championship Race ahead of Weini Kelati).
Tyynismaa's 158.00 speed rating broke the previous best junior high girl's speed rating set by Nicole Blood of Saratoga Springs in 2001 (154.50) ... Nicole Blood achieved that performance at the NY State Class A Championship race where she beat Laurel Burdick (Fayetteville-Manlius) by 12 seconds and had a faster time than other class winners Molly Huddle and Tracey Brauksieck ... Huddle, Burdick and Brauksieck all beat Nicole Blood at the NY Federation Meet where their respective speed ratings were (156, 153, 153 and 151) ... Huddle, Burdick and Brauksieck all qualified for Foot Locker Nationals (where they had respective speed ratings of 162, 147 and 151) in the race won by Amber Trotter (180.3 speed rating).
NC State University Women's High School Speed Ratings
As a horse handicapper, I enjoy looking at past performance records of horses ... After reading that Amaris Tyynismaa has transferred to NC State, I compiled the high school speed rating performances of various NC State XC runners "out of curiosity" for comparative purposes ... I wanted to see "how good" they performed in high school XC using a compiled format.
The NC State women in the 2022 NCAA Championship Race
were:
1 - Katelyn Tuohy (19:27.7)
3 - Kelsey Chmiel (19:37.1)
15 - Samantha Bush (19:57.6)
29 - Nevada Mareno (20:07.5)
90 - Brooke Rauber (20:33.3)
98 - Sydney Seymour (20:36.9)
122 - Gionna Quarzo (20:45.7)
Below are my compiled past performance records for all but Sydney Seymour (she was a non-scoring senior not running next year) ... Nevada Mareno was also a senior (not running next year), but I wanted to see her performances as a scoring team member ... Also included in the compilation is Amaris Tyynismaa and Marlee Starliper who are eligible to run next year.
A few viewers may find these speed ratings past performances of interest (that's why I'm posting them) ... The past performances of the the New York girls are fairly complete ... The past performances of the out-of-State girls are less complete (I only speed rated selected races of interest to me).
Katelyn Tuohy and Kelsey Chmiel ran 1-2 at
NXN Nationals 2019 and 2018 with Brooke Rauber finishing 7th and 6th,
respectively, in those races
... So those NY high school prodigies (currently running for NC State) are
continuing to be successful at the collegiate level.
