Note ... The scores are simply my pre-season "guess" of relative team abilities in a combined race ... I included 40 teams to show some depth.

In General ... Similar to other pre-seasons, I see uncertainty in the team scores posted above ... Pre-season projections are often made with limited knowledge (or no knowledge) of incoming impact runners such as transfers (from other sports or other schools) or significantly improved runners from the previous year ... It requires guessing.

Fayetteville-Manlius enters the 2019 XC season as the top-rated team in NY ... Fayetteville-Manlius is the only team in NY with four returning runners having overall speed ratings in 170s or higher (see Class A speed ratings below).

One or two new impact runners could make a big difference for a bunch of teams ... Should be interesting to watch the development throughout the XC season.

Fayetteville-Manlius won the New York State Class A race and NXN New York Regional by large margins (won States by 62 points in a nine team field) ... Although FM graduated two of their top runners, they return a very solid core of runners and will be ranked decently high at the National level ... FM is the odds-on favorite to win the State Class A race.

A bunch of teams are contention for the spots behind FM ... Four of the top 7 teams in my Class A pre-season rankings are Section 2 teams, and unfortunately only one team from each section is allowed to qualify for the State Class Meet.

The pre-season rankings are based largely on the speed ratings of returning runners which are shown below ... Any team with one or more "new" good runners or noticeably improved runners can improve their ranking position by quite a bit (and perhaps, a lot).

Burnt Hills is the defending Class B Champion again (they won by 74 points last year) ... But this year is different ... Burnt Hills lost their top 4 runners from States to graduation ... Burnt Hills did have a team of decent depth and return enough talent to be considered co-favorites with East Aurora ... Burnt Hills gets the top position because they are the defending champions.

East Aurora is typically one of the top teams in the mix for State consideration ... Based on XC performances from last year, East Aurora and Burnt Hills are virtually even-up.

Mount Academy is really a Class C/D team based on enrollment numbers, but as a private school, they were moved-up in class by Section 9 ... Mount Academy is definitely within striking distance of the top two if the top two don't show some noticeable improvement ... Actually - If any of the top 10 (or so) teams can get a couple of nicely improved runners and/or new runners, Class B could get real interesting.
