I make them available so viewers can see who the top individuals are and what they have done ...  and I do not take the exact order of the lists too seriously (and neither should anybody else) ... Once the season begins, these lists are not used in any way to rank individual runners.

How To Read the Table Information: The number following the name is the school grade for the 2014 XC season. The "Class" in parentheses pertains to the 2014 XC season. The XC data listed below the name are, in order, the race name, race date, place, actual race time, and speed rating (higher is faster).  Selected track data are also listed for most runners.  My Boys XC performance database and Boys track & field performance database are available on separate web-pages.

 

Mike Brannigan    12    Northport   (Section 11 - Class A)
Mike Brannigan had some excellent performances throughout XC including a win in the Champ division of the Shore Coaches Invitational at Holmdel Park in New Jersey and a win at the NXN-NY Regional (his time was the 2nd fastest time ever at Bowdoin Park, only bettered by Nick Ryan) ... Mike finished 2nd to Bryce Millar at States (Class A) by only 0.3 seconds.

Mike performed exceptionally well during the track seasons ... Set a 1600m PR at outdoor States where he lost to Luke Gavigan by only 0.02 seconds (4:07.84, link to race video) ... Set the NY State Junior Class 2-Mile/3200m record when winning 2-Mile at outdoor Nationals (8:53.59, which is 3rd fastest 2-Mile in NY history bettered only by Josh McDougal and John Gregorek) .... Mike Brannigan enters the 2014 XC season as the top-rated harrier in NY.

Here are individual profiles for five Fayetteville-Manlius guys ... The FM Boys will be the top-rated team in NY State and they will be nationally ranked (Bryce Millar would be the next profile following Mike Brannigan):

Bryce Millar     12    Fayetteville-Manlius   (Section 3 - Class A)
Bryce Millar had an excellent XC season in 2013 ... He won the State Class A race over Mike Brannigan by 0.3 of a second ... finished 2nd in the Championship race at Manhattan and 2nd in the top McQuaid race division ... finished 4th at the NXN-NY Regional ... and had five races with speed ratings in the 190s.

In track, Bryce finished a very good 2nd at outdoor States when setting his 3200m PR (9:04.26, losing by less than half-a-second, link to race video) ... also set a 1-Mile PR (4:19.39) in winning the Fleet Feet Mile at Chittenango ... He will lead FM in their quest for another State title and another trip to NXN Nationals.

Peter Ryan made a huge improvement in XC from his freshmen to sophomore seasons ... he enters the 2014 XC season as the #5 top-rated returner in all NY State ....... Peter ran indoor track and set his PR at 3200m when finishing 8th at the State Meet (9:21.49) ... Did not compete during outdoor track ... I heard he was going trough a growth spurt (getting taller), and was cross-training to prevent possible injuries.

		runners beat him at NXN Nationals (and they were both seniors, and he 
		finished ahead of both Mike Brannigan and Bryce Millar at NXN) ........ In

 CLASS A

Mike Brannigan is the top-rated Class A runner entering XC 2014, and the
overall top-rated male runner in NY State ... Bryce Millar is close behind
and can challenge for the top-spot along with other highly-rated runners
such as Aidan Tooker, Peter Ryan and others ... Class A is, once again, the
strongest class in NY  ... I expect to see some runners stepping-up and
performing at a higher XC level based on specific XC or track performances.

Both Fayetteville-Manlius and Liverpool have multiple runners in the list
below ... and once again, both teams are not allowed to qualify for the
Class A State Meet because they are from the same section.

Class B is not as strong as last year ... In last year's pre-season list,
Luke Gavigan was ranked 5th behind four seniors (including TJ Hornberger,
Brian Cook and Ryan Udvadia) ... A large group of Class B runner appear
capable of stepping-up to a higher level and it will be interesting to see
who does it ... This year I moved junior Kevin Hazelwood up the list
because he was affected by injuries last year and appears to be improving.

 Class C

Jeremy Spiezo won the Class D race last year, but Greenwich moves to Class C
in 2014 ... Jeremy performed very well in track and is the top-rated runner
in Class C entering 2014 ... Jeriqho Gadway won the Class C race last year
and will be a strong contender to repeat in 2014 ... Kenny Vasbinder (and
East Aurora) drop from Class B to Class C ... James Burke has an excellent
track resume and is capable of challenging for the top-spot.
