Scheduled Qualifying Meets for the NY State Outdoor Track & Field Championships

     ... Boys (May 27, Cicero-N Syr, 5:00pm)

   Section 5 (May 27, Honeoye Falls-Lima, 5:00pm)

Section 11 (May 27-28, Port Jefferson HS)

CHSAA (May 21, Icahn Stadium, 9:30am)
   PSAL (May 29, Icahn Stadium)

Of the meets listed above, Section 3 is only qualifying meet where the boys and girls do not compete together (as they do in State Meet).

Five Sections (1, 6, 8, 9, 11) conduct a two-day meet (as is done in the State Meet) ... I do not know the exact specifics of these five qualifying meets, but I believe most follow an order of events similar to the State Meet ... And I believe most sections (other than Section 3) follow an order of events similar to the State Meet in their one-day qualifier.

The Section 3 Girls follow an order of events similar to the State Meet.

The Section 3 Boys are different ... they have both a separate meet and a separate order of events ... Here is their starting order of events:

 Pent 110 Hurdles
 4x800 Relay
 4x100 Relay
 4x400 Relay
 3000 Steeplechase
 110 Hurdles-Semis
 100 Meters-Semis
 1600 Meters

All three relays are at the beginning of the meet (back-to-back, no time breaks) ... Last year, this new order of events was a big challenge for Tully because Tully wanted to qualify in both the 4x400 and 4x800 with the same three runners in both relays (Lopez Lomong, Dominic Luka and Bennett Hillenbrand) ... in addition, Lomong was running the 1600 meters and needed a fast seed time for the State Meet ... Because Lomong and Luka were more interested in getting the relay teams to States (than their individual events), they decided to run both relays ...

At qualifiers, Tully ran (and won) both the 4x800 relay (8:08.84) and 4x400 relay (3:27.83) which were about 17 minutes apart ... in the 4x800, Lopez Lomong split 1:56.0 and Dominic Luka split 1:55.2 ... in the 4x400, Lopez Lomong split 50.1 and Dominic Luka split 49.7 ... Lopez Lomong won the open 1600m in 4:22.91 (opening 800m in 2:14.1 and final 400m in 63.3) ... As told to me later, the exact time spread between Lomong getting the baton in the first relay and crossing the finish-line in the 1600m was 48 minutes, 30 seconds, so in the time-span of 48 and a half minutes, Lomong ran and completed (in order), 1:56.0 (800m), 50.1 (400m) and 4:22.91 (1600m) ... In terms of event timing or scheduling, Does this resemble anything that occurs at the State Meet?? ... This caused Lomong to be placed in the "unseeded" heat at States and deprive serious track fans and competitors of a really good race (Lomong won the overall event in 4:10 despite running a solo race).
