2007 XC Team
Pre-Season Preview - Boys
Here's a brief pre-season preview of Boys
teams in Section 3 (separated by Class AA, A, B, C and D).
Any exact or quantifiable
ranking in the pre-season is impossible - Too many unknown factors!
However, I decided to
project team scores using last year's XC performances
for possible returning runners (plus some guesses) ... This is just a
"ball-park" look at the upcoming season ... I decided that a more
in-depth pre-season evaluation is not worth the time and effort ...
Hopefully the coaches sent information to the local newspapers for
pre-season articles.

General Outlook
... Class AA appears to be a very close match-up between
FM,
Liverpool and
CNS.
Fayetteville-Manlius ...
FM loses a lot to graduation (Tommy Gruenewald,
Geoff King and Luke Fitzgibbons), but so do the other contending
teams ... The score above assumes that "new" sophomore runner
Alex Hatz actually runs XC and is healthy at the time of
sectionals ... Alex Hatz has played soccer in the past, but
ran some excellent times during track season at 3200m (9:33) and
1600m (4:22).
Liverpool
... Loses four sectional runners to graduation (including Colin
Heenan, Nick Scalione and Mike Compson), but return some good runners
including Ethan Hickey and Bryan Picciotto.
Cicero-North Syracuse
... Loses two of their top three from sectionals to graduation (Ben
Ludovici and Kyle Fritz)
... But return their other five sectional runners including Nathan McNabb
... CNS
has a large squad of runners, and could win the sectional title.
Baldwinsville
... See Coach Mike Foster's
Baldwinsville Web-Site
for additional information.
West Genesee
... See
Coach Jim Vermeulen's
West
Genesee Web-Site for their pre-season preview. |

Whitesboro
... is the defending Class A champion from both 2006 and 2005 ... They return
their top three runners (Jon Szczesniak, David Rugari
and Garrett Parker) and are once again the favorites in Class
A. Mexico
... returns their top six sectional runners (including Evan
Oustrich).
East Syracuse-Minoa
... returns their top two sectional runners (Jeff Sweeny
and Nick Sadlocha).

General Outlook
... Looks like a relatively close match-up between the top three teams
entering the season (Westhill,
Bishop Ludden and South
Jefferson ... and New Hartford and Chittenango are not far
behind).
Westhill
... loses two good sectional runners to graduation (Greg
Pallotta and Pat Hartnett), but they return their other five
including Andrew Corcoran.
Bishop
Ludden ...
Bishop Ludden is combined
with Bishop Grimes which places them in Class B for 2007
(up from Class C) ... Coach Jerry Smith has a good team
(including top runner Sean Curry) and is definite threat
to win Class B.
South Jefferson
... was hurt by the transfer of top runner Zach Ornelas
to Cedar Park, Texas ... Also found out that Matt Ingro
has transferred out-of-State ... They return some good
runners in Ryan Sanders and Greg
Burns.

... Tully enters the season as the favorite in Class C (Tully
is the defending State Class C Champion)
... Tully loses their top two runners to graduation (Mike
Heymann and Scott
VanderMolen), but returns everybody else including Chris Burke (who
won the Footlocker NE Junior race), Ohure Sam, Marc
Stachowski, Nate Webber,
Ethan Lennox and Greg Hartnett.
Holland Patent
... drops down from Class B (Holland Patent
lost to Westhill by only 3 points last year in Class B) ... they
graduated three of their top four sectional runners, but have a deep
team.
Canastota
... returns their entire sectional team (including top runner
Robbie Argentine).
Sauquoit Valley
... loses two of their top four sectional finishers, but usually has
