Kayleigh Wheeless (Westhill)
continued her excellent indoor season by winning both the 1000 Meters
(3:01.9) and 600 Meters (1:41.7) ... both marks are PRs ... Kayleigh is
primarily known as a distance runner (top runner on Westhill's XC team that
finished 3rd at States), so this "short distance" speed is something new ...
in the spring, Kayleigh could be one of the top Steeplechase runners in the
State (along with Erin Demchko (Pearl River), Heather Iatauro (Tri-Valley)
and Lindsay Sundell (Northport)). Tara Casey (Westhill) cleared 10-7 in the Pole Vault to set another Indoor Section 3 record ... Tara and Katie Wilmer (CNS) have been consistently raising the record throughout the indoor season ... In the High Jump, Marie Swieta (APW, 5-4) and Jessica Ball (Liverpool, 5-3) finished 1st and 2nd again ... they also finished 1st and 2nd at the West Point Invitational (Jan 26). |
