Girl's Section 3 State Qualifiers -
Liverpool High - May 31, 2001
... Liverpool High School hosted the 2001 Girl's Section 3 Track &
Field State Qualifiers on a sunny, slightly breezy and cool Thursday afternoon
(temperature about 55 to 65 degrees). Athletes qualified for this
meet by finishing first, second or third at sectional class meets a week
ago or by achieving a specific qualifying standard in a meet with five or
more schools. Event winners in each class (Class A, Class B and Class C/D)
advance to State Championship Meet at Mitchel Field, Hofstra University
(June 8-9). Once again, Pat Leone and co-workers (Leone
Timing & Result Services) provided excellent F.A.T. (fully
automatic timing) and computerized results for a Section 3 meet ... complete

Track ... therefore, I am posting only partial results (listing the
winners in each class) and some
photos taken at the meet.
As expected, the Fayetteville-Manlius trio
of Heather Stevens, Laurel Burdick and Lauren Heron
qualified for multiply events ... Stevens won the 100m dash (12.11) and
400m dash (56.91), Burdick won the 1500m (4:41.91) and 3000m (10:14.48),
and Heron won the 800m (2:16.75) ... all three ran on FM's winning 4x800m
relay team (along with Mackenzie Klump) which set a school record of
9:29.02.
Jennifer Galvin (Fabius-Pompey) won
three individual events in Class C/D ... the 100m hurdles (15.94), the
200m dash (26.13) and the discus (124-7).
All races 800m and longer were contested as
combined class races (Class A, B and C/D competed in the same race
together with results separated by classes afterwards) ... the shorter
races were run separately by class.

Laurel Burdick controlled the lead and set approximate split
times of: 400m - 72.6, 800m - 2:28.6, 1200m - 3:45.6 ....
Everding, Lister and Kosakowski had a good competitive race
for 2nd place with Everding outsprinting her rivals on the
final lap ... Lister and Kosakowski ran very well.

Laurel Burdick controlled the lead and set approximate split
times of: 800m - 2:34.5, 1500m - 4:59.4, 1600m - 5:19.4 ....
at 1600m, Burdick had an 8 second lead and extended her lead
all the way to the finish. The "chase-pack" at 1600m (5:27.5)
included Cross, Kosakowski and Hughes ... Kosakowski finished
strongly to be 2nd overall.
