     |    Rankings for Class B (Section 3) will be added
later ... I'm not sure which teams will be competing in Class B this year. Last
year, I believe both South Jefferson and Canastota moved up from Class C
to Class B ... Canastota is NOT moving up this year ... South
Jefferson is moving up. Westhill is now Class B according to
enrollment cut-offs ... they become my Pre-Season Favorite to win Class
      B.  1999 Section 3 Class B Team Results:1. South Jefferson - 64
 2. Canastota - 112
 3. Jordan Elbridge - 122
 4. New Hartford -  133
 5. Homer - 145
 6. Jamesville-Dewitt - 169
 7. Chittenago - 171
 8. Indian River - 208
 9. Mexico - 207
 10. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill - 211
 11. Oneida - 260
 12. Phoenix - 271
 13. Carthage - 356
Here are some brief thoughts (Click

          | Pre-Season 2000
            Analysis |
          | Westhill | Westhill returns their entire
Sectional team from last year. They finished a respectable 2nd to Skaneateles in Class
C last year (27 to 76). Top runner Kayleigh
Wheeless is simply outstanding ... and I'm very impressed by other Westhill
runners (Kaitlin O'Sullivan, Emily Lemanczyk, Meghan McAnaney, Lynne Feeley,
Elizabeth Jurkiewicz, and Ann Balch). I'm glad they are not Class D! |
          | South
Jefferson | South Jefferson loses Erin
Morgan, Rebecca Foulger, and Kristin Lister to graduation ... that
hurts! However, they return outstanding runners Jessica and Melissa
Lister ... other returning runners (Amanda Weikel, Cassaundra
Mullin, and Sarah Wiiliams) may be able to fill the graduation void
... I've been told they have some very good runners moving up from
junior high! South Jefferson will still be strong. South Jefferson
moved from Class C to Class B last year and are moving up to
            Class B this year. |
          | Canastota | From last year's sectional
race, Canastota loses only Larissa Hopkins to graduation. Coach Andy
Pino has a very solid core of returning runners including Tracy
Komrowski, Natalie Romer, Jennifer Ahlstrom, Christina Ahlstrom, Cara Gaglianese,
and Tabitha Gaglianese. Tracy Komrowski and Natalie Romer are very
            good runners.
Canastota can be expected to move from Class C to Class B again this
year because they are a real contender. |
          | Jordan
Elbridge | J-E loses Karina Chapman
and Beth Jordan to graduation (their #3 and #5 runners from
sectionals). Returning runners Katie Merrill, Julie Norman, Kayla
Nimmo, and Alicia MacDowell are very solid ... but J-E appears to
need some help from last year's junior high team, and I don't know
            anything about their prospects. |
          | New
Hartford | New Hartford loses Annie
Herbowy and Jessica Tyluki to graduation ... but they returning some
talented runners (Katie Luker, Mary Cook, Adrienne Spartano, Kristine Scaglione,
and Rachel Rossi). Katie Luker is one of the top Class B runners. |
          | Homer | Junior Tracey Brauksieck
is easily the best runner in Class B ... it sure helps the team
score to start out with a '1'. In addition to Tracey, Homer returns
junior Emily Ames and sophomores Jen Battista, and
Ashley Keith. With some help from last year's junior high team,
Homer may be a contender to win the sectionals. Not only has Coach
Jerry Frare had team success in the past, he has lots of experience
coaching great runners ... currently Tracey, and somebody named
Michelle Franklin before that. | |
