November 2, 2003 ... Here are the
Girls pre-race projections
for
the 2003 Section 3 Championships & Actual Post-Race Team Scores
Please remember:
the predicted scores below only indicate a possible outcome based
upon individual runner speed ratings ... they are NOT absolute ... they
are only one indication of team strength. I used the top seven
runners from each team as best as I was aware of ... one major problem
with projections is knowing who will or will not be running on some
teams (it can make a big difference) ... Predicted Scores were posted on
October 28, 2003 ... Actual scores will be posted side-by-side after
the meet ... Updated
Nov 2, 2003 with the actual scores.

Section 3 Team Predictions]

Post-Race
... It was a super race ... CNS edging Liverpool
by only two points ... unfortunately, one of the FM runners was
unable to finish the race, but Brittany Crawford (FM) won the race
with another good performance ... West Genesee raced better
than at OHSLs (Elizabeth McMahon is getting better and better)
Pre-Race Analysis ... This
race is very close amongst the top three teams ... in terms of winning
probability, Liverpool, Cicero-North Syracuse and
Fayetteville-Manlius have reasonable chances of winning, with
CNS and Liverpool in a virtual dead-heat ... In the OHSL
Championship Meet, CNS (82) outscored Liverpool (94) and
FM (115), but if only the Class A teams are considered, CNS
beat Liverpool only 5 points.
The team race could be a "one-runner" race
... that is, one runner on any team having a very good race or a very
bad race could determine the title winner.
Individually, Brittany Crawford
(FM) dominated the OHSL race ... Nicki Junod (CNS) has the
ability to make it close. |

Post-Race
... the top three teams ran to form with VVS showing
even more improvement (a real season) ... Westhill runs much of
the race in a pack, and score well because of it ... New Hartford was
incomplete
Pre-Race Analysis ...
Westhill is deep and talented, and figures to win comfortably ...
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill has had a very good season and deserves
credit for a very nice improvement ... Individually, Ashley Hughes
(Phoenix) should win easily. |

Post-Race
... Skaneateles dominated the race as expected ...
South Jefferson posted a real good team effort to go along with
the super performance by Nichole Lister ... the scores above are a
little out-of-whack because of incompletes and no-shows (not everybody
wants to come to sectionals)
Pre-Race Analysis ...
Skaneateles won the OHSL Championship Meet and beat the best Class
A schools in the process ... their top five runners finished less than
a minute apart, and they are all capable of running better ...
Canastota is a good team (they are currently ranked #2 in the
State behind Skaneateles); unfortunately, only one team can
qualify for States.
Individually,
Nichole Lister (South Jefferson) is far ahead of the field ...
Nichole is easily the top-rated Class C runner in the State and one of
the five best (any class) in the State ... This season, Nichole became
the first female to break the 18 minute barrier at Adirondack's full
5K course (17:56) ... Nichole broke the course record at Phoenix which
was held by Footlocker Finalist Tracey Brauksieck (Homer) who ran
there many times ... and Nichole is getting better! |

Post-Race
... Beaver River had to use an all-out effort to
barely edge Tully by a mere 63 points
... it was the last race for
Tully's three senior leaders
... Weedsport and Onondaga ran very well
Pre-Race Analysis ...
Beaver River is tuning up for a State show-down with Argyle
(second best team in the State behind Class A Saratoga) ... as yet,
Beaver River has not shown their best race - they are very
talented ... Individually, Lauren Moser (Beaver River) is the
over-whelming favorite to repeat as sectional champion ... Lauren is
the defending State Class D champion; at States, she will surprise
most observers because her best race is coming. |
